Ryan Garcia offers Haney a rematch: Is Devin brave enough? – Boxing News 24

Ryan Garcia posted a message on social media today offering defeated opponent Devin Haney a rematch to give him the opportunity to avenge his loss last April. Superstar Ryan throws Devin a lifeline, giving him another chance to taste defeat.

Haney would risk humiliation if he accepted Ryan's generous offer, but he has no other choice. Ryan demolished Devin last April and it was so bad that it would be impossible for him to rebuild without at least trying to avenge the loss.

The downside is that another loss would likely send Haney into early retirement, but he would be filthy rich thanks to the huge payday he would receive for his second fight with Ryan.

Devin's Hampton Dream

Haney's father, Bill, says they want to live in the Hamptons on Long Island, New York, where billionaires live. By accepting Ryan's offer for a rematch, Haney's bank account will increase to the point where he can afford to live in the posh Hamptons to rub shoulders with the rich and famous.

Haney, 25, will risk what's left of his career in his second fight with Ryan. The way Ryan dismantled the WBC welterweight champion, knocking him down six times in the fight (of which the referee on duty only counted three), Haney would have put everything on the line in a rematch.

I think it's doubtful that Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) will accept Ryan (25-1.20 KOs) for his generous offer, since he said in a recent interview that he has no interest in fighting him.

Haney's Potential Rematch Checklist

– Fights at 140 lbs without a catchweight
– 10lb Rehydration Point: Secondary weight check the evening of fight night.
– Increased share of wallet plus PPV growth potential.
– Drug testing throughout training camp.

In other words, I can see Haney wanting to be on the A side in the rematch with Ryan and have the tables turned in his favor to give him the advantage.

Moreover, Haney's promoter, Eddie Hearn, wants Ryan to be given a lifetime ban from boxing for testing positive for two PEDs last April. If Hearn gets his way, it will make things worse for Devin.

Ryan's proposal: oysters and sleepless nights

“Devin, damn it, let’s run it again. If you feel like you were cheated, we can run it again,” Ryan Garcia said on air. X, offering Devin Haney a rematch. “I will only eat oysters at the gathering and will not sleep.”
