Astros starter Ronel Blanco ejected vs. A's after checking for foreign substance

Astros starter Ronel Blanco was ejected Tuesday night after testing positive for a foreign substance early in the fourth inning against the Oakland Athletics.

Third base umpire Laz Diaz ejected Blanco in the fourth inning after checking his glove before throwing a pitch. The umpire, Blanco and Houston manager Joe Espada stood near the mound for several minutes before ejecting the right-hander.

Astros pitcher Ronel Blanco has been ejected for using a foreign substance on his glove vs. the A's.

Blanco's glove was confiscated and first base umpire Erich Bacchus ran off the field with it and carried it somewhere before returning.

Blanco held his hands and slapped them together in front of the umpires as they checked his glove before ejecting him, and he motioned again after he was thrown out.

Blanco, who threw a no-hitter in his season debut, allowed four hits and struck out one in three scoreless innings Tuesday. He has a 2.09 ERA this season. The Astros went up 1-0 when Taylor replaced Scott.

MLB begins a crackdown on foreign substances in June 2021, and Blanco will likely face a 10-game suspension for the violation.
