MLB: Guerrero son at the heart of the rumors – TVA Sports

The future of Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. remains unclear, since “private discussions” regarding a possible transaction have reportedly taken place with the Chicago Cubs.

This was reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today on Sunday.

According to the reporter, the Jays could make the first baseman available by the July 30 trade deadline if the team cannot reach an agreement with him on a new pact and if the Blue Jays do not find themselves not in a good position for the playoffs. The slugger won his case in salary arbitration last winter and is receiving $19.9 million this year.

Last Sunday on MLB Network radio, Blue Jays general manager Ross Artkins stressed the importance of Guerrero and Bo Bichette to the team, even though it has struggled. He ruled out the possibility of exchanging them.

“It doesn’t make any sense to us, it’s not something we’ve put any time into. Because they are so talented and good teammates, they are attractive to other organizations,” explained the CEO.

The Toronto team is in fifth place in the East Division of the American Baseball League and has a record of 31-33. John Schneider's men are still in the race to take the last place among the drafted teams.

This year, Guerrero Jr. hit seven home runs and drove in 30 runs while maintaining a .294 batting average.
