WTA – s'Hertogenbosh – Naomi Osaka returns to the grass almost 5 years later

It's not a secret, Naomi Osaka is not the most comfortable player on natural surfaces. She never did better than a 3rd round Roland Garros and to Wimbledon. The one who won four Grand Slams on hard courts, never hid it and often played little on clay and skipped the grass tour. In fact, she has not played a match on this surface since Wimbledon 2019, almost 5 years ago when she lost in the first round against Yulia Putintseva. This year, the Japanese seems more determined to adapt to grass, she who will play from the first week of this tour, on Libéma Open.

Not an easy draw for his return…

In the first round of Hertogenbosh WTA 250, Naomi Osaka inherited the Belgian Elise Mertens. The latter has already reached the 1/4 here in the Netherlands, and has already made a 1/8 final in Wimbledon. Better results than those from Osaka on the surface, but like the latter, the grass is not the favorite surface of Mertens, she who only won one match last year on it. A close match is therefore to be expected while in the second round the winner will have a more affordable match against Bernarda Pera Or Susan Lamens before why not find Jessica Pegula in the semi-final. One thing is sure, Naomi Osaka is motivated to do well on grass, she who will also want to forget her heartbreaking defeat against Iga Swiatek has Roland Garroswhere she had obtained a match ball.
