Brazil – Argentina. Forecast and announcement for the 2026 World Cup qualifying match

On November 22, the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro will host the match of the 6th round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the South American zone, in which the Brazilian national team will meet with the Argentina national team. The match will begin at 02:30 Kyiv time.

Brazil

The Brazilian team actually hasn’t pleased its fans for quite some time. Especially at the world championships, where the pentacampeons only once in the last two decades passed the cursed quarterfinal round. For a long time he managed to hold onto the post of mentor Tite, who was forgiven for both his signature failure in 2018 and his defeat in the final of the home Copa America 2021.

But the trip to Qatar brought the usual unsuccessful outcome. And this fall, while waiting for Ancelotti to take over, Fernando Diniz is taking over as head coach. He started off strong, with a couple of victories in September, over Bolivia and Peru. But then there was failure in October, with a draw at home to weak Venezuela and a defeat in Uruguay, the first in many years. The pause did not help: they also lost to Colombia 1:2 – they scored quickly, but conceded in the 75th and 79th minutes.

Argentina

The Argentina national team may well be considered No. 1 now. Moreover, both on his continent – the winner of the Copa America, and in the world as a whole – in December Messi still won the much-coveted World Cup, which brought him another Golden Ball. However, there were other heroes: from Emiliano Martinez, who saved the team a lot, including in penalty shootouts, and to Lionel Scaloni, the mentor under whom everything changed.

And now Albi-Celestes is also on the move – they started with a series of victories, dry ones at that, and topped the selection table. But the real challenge came in November, when they hosted Uruguay under the leadership of their fellow countryman Marcelo Bielsa. The visitors were stunned by scoring a goal at the end of each half and won the match 2:0.

Statistics of personal meetings

In 2018–19, Brazil won twice, but then Argentina responded in kind, including in the Copa America final on the Seleção field. In the last qualifying round there was a goalless draw, and the second match was never played.

Forecast

Bookmakers give a purely nominal advantage to the home team. But here both need to rehabilitate themselves – we bet on the total over 2.0 goals (odds – 1.94).
