SVITOLINA’s coach: “Elina is a real workaholic”

Dutch coach Ramon Sluiterwho has been working with the most titled Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina since March of this year, told how difficult it was for our compatriot to return to the court after giving birth.

“Elina was aiming for the beginning of April 2022 and said that she wanted to be in shape in Rome, because she really likes this tournament and has won it twice,” the Ukrainian coach said in an interview with Tribune. “I also really liked that she had a goal, but we didn’t know how her body would react and we had to be careful.”

This was something new for both her and me. Her body had changed and it took some getting used to. We monitored the body’s reaction to the load, but there were no relapses, there were practically no injuries. Therefore, already at the beginning of April, Elina was ready for the competition.

One of the strongest aspects of our cooperation is our openness to each other. I feel like we want the best and are choosing the best course of events for both of us. Sometimes Gael joins us in training – he and Elina have a fantastic relationship. Gael always brings energy and a cheerful mood. He can be serious, but his presence in training adds a certain lightness, which is very important for Elina. And now, given the war in her homeland, it is even more important for her to have someone close to her, whom she loves so much, who can help her be in a good mood.

Gael jokes a lot. I don’t remember anything specific, but in general he is responsible for the good mood and enjoyment of the game on the court. Elina is an amazing workaholic, but she also has the right to have fun. And I should also enjoy the game.”
