Ukrainian opera singer Sergei Ivanchuk will sing the Ukrainian anthem before the decisive Euro 2024 qualifying match between Ukraine and Italy.
According to the UAF, before the full-scale invasion, Sergei studied in Italy to become an opera singer, but with the outbreak of the war he returned to Ukraine, delivered humanitarian aid and evacuated people from combat zones in the Kharkov and Sumy regions.
On March 10, he came under fire from an enemy DRG, receiving five bullet wounds. One of the bullets shot through the lung. Sergei fought for life to the last and, thanks to Ukrainian surgeons, not only survived, but also began to sing again.
Now Sergei Ivanchuk is undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Germany, where he regularly holds charity events and concerts. Thanks to them, the singer managed to collect and help Ukraine for more than €2 million.
The Ukraine-Italy match will take place on Monday, November 20, in Leverkusen.
