Ryan Garcia stands by his contention that he did not knowingly cheat before his fight with Devin Haney in April, despite what a failed drug test may have suggested.
The circumstances of the fight were already controversial due to Garcia missing weight before the contest, but they became quite impressive as Garcia delivered a brutal blow to Haney en route to a decision victory.
Less than a month after the fight, it was revealed that Garcia had failed not one, but two drug tests for a banned performance-enhancing substance called Ostarine. However, according to Ryan Garcia, he never took steroids and categorically denied the accusations.
Ryan Garcia tells Jake Paul he's 'quitting boxing' on Instagram Live
Speaking to fellow boxer and social media celebrity Jake Paul on Instagram Live, Garcia addressed the allegations and continued to maintain that he is innocent.
“Ryan, if you did that, that really sucks,” Paul said (H/T MMA Fighting). “I’ll be mad at you as a friend, that’s fucked up.”
“If I did that, and I know damn well I didn’t, I would quit boxing,” Garcia responded. “I didn't do it. This is crazy… God is watching me all the time. I'm not going to do anything to deceive people. I could hurt him. I could kill him. Why the hell should I do this? This is so stupid that I won't do it. Fool, I would never cheat.
The fight was epic for Ryan Garcia, who had a chance to win his first world title against Haney. However, this opportunity will be denied due to the fact that his weight will not be indicated on the scale. Now even the victory itself is in question, since it is obvious that the use of PEDs will negate this impressive victory.
