Former undisputed bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has taken a swipe at past opponent and current division titleholder Sean O'Malley, claiming the Montana native is carefully choosing his fights as he struggles to find a date for his proposed bout with Merab Dvalishvili.
Sterling, a former undisputed bantamweight champion, made his debut in the featherweight division with aplomb last month at UFC 300, scoring a dominant unanimous decision victory over perennial contender Calvin Kattar.
The fight came as a Uniondale native and was Sterling's first fight since he lost to O'Malley at bantamweight back in August of last year, thanks to a second-round knockout loss.
And fresh off a similarly one-sided decision win over Marlon Vera at UFC 299 back in March, O'Malley has been heavily linked with a pairing against rising number one contender Dvalishvili – Sterling's close friend and training partner. .
In response to Dvalishvili's claims that he would beat O'Malley and then his head coach Tim Welch, the champion warned him that he would beat the Georgian's best friend, in a mocking dig at Sterling.

After receiving a furious response from MMA staple Serra-Longo, the ex-champion Sterling called out O'Malley to actually fight his top contender before branding the titleholder an “apologetic” one.
“You are a pathetic champion,” Aljamain Sterling wrote on his page. official X check in response to Sean O'Malley. “Keep showing off the handicapped fight to give yourself the best chance of winning. You are not a real man, my guy. “Don’t try to dodge the number one contender again so you can fight number 15 this time or some other pointless and meaningless fight.”
As for his return to the Octagon, Sterling is being linked with a main event bout against rising Russian fighter Movsar Evloev, which will be his second appearance at featherweight.
