Arum says he wants to make a fight between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Shakur Stevenson if Loma defeats Kambosos Jr. – Latest Boxing News

Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum says Vasiliy Lomachenko is his favorite fighter to watch right now. And Arum says if he can get Loma to fight Shakur Stevenson, our fight fans will be left in “awe.” Arum, speaking to Sky Sports, said he would like to make the fight happen later this year, provided Lomachenko, 36, wins this weekend in Australia, where he takes on George Kambosos Jr for the vacant IBF lightweight title .

Lomachenko is the favorite to win on May 12, but Kambosos has youth on his side, he's fighting at home, and the former 135-pound world champion is confident he can make it his fight and beat the former king, pound-for-pound. .

“Kambosos is a real threat,” Arum said. “He can fight, he’s very talented, Lomachenko is super talented. But again, there is his age, especially in the lightweight divisions where age is a more important factor. But I hope that Lomachenko can rise to the occasion and win the title because there is no fighter that I enjoy watching more than Lomachenko. He's a really great technician. I have another fighter, Shakur Stevenson, who is also a great technician. So, if Lomachenko beats Shakur, who is scheduled to fight in July, then the Lomachenko-Shakur fight will take place in the fall, every serious boxing fan will watch in awe as two great technicians fight for a unified title.”

Indeed, it would be great to see Loma get along with fellow lefty Stevenson; if Lomachenko looks good and wins over Kambosos Jr. It is quite possible that Lomachenko, at 36 years old, will suddenly age and fade in the ring. That doesn't mean it will happen on Sunday in Perth, Australia, but Loma himself recently said that he's an “old man” in a boxing sense and that he's not sure how long he has left in the sport.

But if Loma looks as good as he did last time against Devin Haney, then of course we'll all be looking forward to seeing the old master take on the young talent of Stevenson. This weekend's fight should show us how much Loma has left at this point in his ring career.

Imagine the level of boxing skill we would see if Lomachenko boxed Stevenson.
