Chael Sonnen was offered to become a backup in the fight against Jorge Masvidal. Nate Diaz Boxing Fight July 6: “I Accept”

Chael Sonnen has been offered the role of backup for Jorge Masvidal's upcoming boxing match with Nate Diaz.

The highly anticipated rematch between Gamebred and Stockton Samurai was originally scheduled to take place on June 1st at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. However, that plan recently changed as their scrap metal event was given a new date and location.

The fight will now take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Saturday, July 6th. Boxing Scene was the first to report the news.

The date change also came with another interesting rumor suggesting that former three-time UFC title challenger Chal Sonnen has been offered a stunt double role for the fight.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, “American Gangster” confirmed that there is some truth to this news, but with one major caveat.

“I don’t like that word (backup),” Sonnen said. “They used another job because there was no scenario where I would fight Nate and they knew it. So it was a different word, but it meant that if Nate couldn't do it, would you take on Masvidal? And I said absolutely. You know what made me angry about this? First of all, I never got my due for it, and secondly, Masvidal said he would sign me and pay me top dollar rather than throw a right hand (in the fight). It was a stupid thing to say.

“The fact that you paid me my highest amount before I asked for it makes me disrespect you as a businessman. I never respected him anyway, but he didn't know that. And then, not to throw my right hand at him as if he were Mr. Right Hand, but I agreed. Please write in the contract that you will pay me a lot of money and you will not hit me with your right hand. Does he really think that I will refuse this? What's next? No weighing? Where does his stupidity end? And whatever the answer is… Whatever he says, I accept.

It's no secret that there is no love lost between Chael Sonnen and Jorge Masvidal. “Gamebred” made multiple threats of physical violence against a man from the streets of West Lynn, Oregon, and his claims were that Sonnen used TRT and PEDs throughout his MMA career.

“I would fight Masvidal right now,” Sonnen added. “He can use his right hand. He might kick me in the balls. He can do whatever he wants. “I’ll be fired up and I’ll beat Jorge Masvidal any day, but I won’t take a fight from Nate and that’s exactly what I told those habronis.”
