Kambosos promises an upset victory over Lomachenko – Latest Boxing News

George Kambosos Jr says he is ready to “shock” Vasiliy Lomachenko on Saturday night to reclaim the vacant IBF lightweight title on ESPN at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Kambosos has not said whether he will retire if he loses this fight. He may face that question if he gets crushed by Lomachenko because it would be his fourth real defeat in a row and it would be nearly impossible for him to crawl back to the top.

Former IBF/WBA/WBO/Ring Magazine lightweight champion Kambosos (21-2, 10 KOs) says he has sold out the 15,500-seat RAC Arena for his fight against former three-division world champion Lomachenko (17-3, eleven). KO).

Despite Kambosos's bluster, fans and bookmakers aren't giving him much of a chance to win the fight because he's looked boring in his last three fights, been easily handled twice by Devin Haney and shockingly dominated by Maxie Hughes to a dubious win.

The performance against Hughes showed that Kambosos is not cut out to fight at the top level of the lightweight division. It's not that he was shot. To begin with, he was never that good and he speaks poorly of Teofimo Lopez, whom he lost to.

Focused and ready for war

“We are simply ready for a real war. I'm 30 years old and I feel fresher than I've ever felt in my life. I’m a true underdog, I keep proving the world wrong,” George Kambosos Jr. told Fighthype while talking about his Saturday night fight against Vasyl Lomachenko on ESPN.

Kambosos needs to try to turn the fight into a war with the 36-year-old Lomachenko because this is the only chance he has to win. He's not going to outbox Lomachenko, and he doesn't have the huge weight advantage that Devin Haney has. Last year he defeated Loma in a controversial decision.

“I don’t think we looked at a fighter as much as we looked at Lomachenko. What he saw in me is not at all what will happen on Sunday. I know he’s fighting a real fight against a real warrior,” Kambosos said.

Warrior spirit and new tricks

“He knows Kambosos is a warrior. He knows he will do whatever it takes. He knows it's an uphill battle. I want to shock with a couple of things we added to our artillery and win this fight. I can’t wait,” Kambosos said.

I don't think Lomachenko sees this as a tough fight. It's more of an average fight for him because Kambosos has shown in his last three fights that he doesn't belong in the elite or A-tier. He has more of a C+ and the only reason he beat Teofimo is because he had him in his head in pre-fight conversation snippets. Teofimo mentally gave up after falling in the first round and never entered the fight.

“I sold out the RAC Arena (capacity: 15,500) for this mega fight in Australia. Kambosos continues to do this. Perhaps his mentality is such that he never managed to get the IBF belt. Perhaps this was not meant to be. The IBF could be a curse for him,” Kambosos said.

It's good that Kambosos sold the fight in Perth. This place is in the middle of nowhere, and it is surprising that anyone there has ever heard of it.

“I have a great IBF belt and I’m looking forward to getting another one on Sunday. We know what he brings. He knows I'm getting to the point, but I'm looking forward to shocking him and the world on Sunday,” Kambosos said.

I think this will be an easy win for Lomachenko as he will win a 12 round unanimous decision and Kambosos won't get a single round.
