Jermall Charlo Arrested After Crash and Police Pursuit – Boxing News 24

WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo was reportedly arrested Tuesday in Texas for fleeing police, driving under the influence and causing property damage.

The 33-year-old Jermall (33-0, 22 KOs) was released on $9,500 bail on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail. In the photo, Charlo looked rather confused, his eyes looking glassy.

Charges against Jermall Charlo

  • Driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 (almost twice the Texas legal limit of 0.08).
  • Imminent Danger of Running SBI Police Officer (High Level Crime)
  • Property damage greater than or equal to $200 associated with a vehicle collision

Details of the incident

Jermall was involved in a car accident at 6:41 pm Tuesday while driving his expensive red Lamborghini Urus. He reportedly then fled the scene after speaking with the other driver.

When police tried to stop Jermall's car, he was unable to stop. They eventually stopped his car and were arrested. Later, while in custody, he took a sobriety test and his blood alcohol level was 0.15, above the Texas limit of 0.08.

This is obviously bad news for Charlo as he is considered one of the fighters being considered for superstar Canelo Alvarez's next fight in September. While this may not stop Jermall from winning the fight, it won't help.

The one Canelo could choose is undefeated WBA #1 mandatory Edgar Berlanga, who is not on the same level as Jermall in terms of achievements, but he is young, active and has yet to get into trouble outside ring .

Jermall couldn't have picked a worse time to get into trouble because otherwise he would have had a good chance of getting a fight against undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo. With the Mexican star unwilling to fight any of the talented fighters at 168, Jermall and Berlanga are the only two left.
