After a strong performance over Jonathon Martinez at UFC 301, featherweight phenom Jose Aldo is ready to cut the line and chase another title.
For Aldo, defeating Sean O'Malley to win the bantamweight title would be the perfect note to end his career. Although Aldo is not as old as we have seen in some UFC fighters, his body has plenty of experience from all the countless brutal battles he has had to endure.
Now 4-1 in his last five UFC fights, legend Jose Aldo is dreaming of another title shot. He mentions how his own trainer explained that a man with such legendary status could very well just break through and face the champion. Moreover, the idea seemed to intrigue Aldo.
Jose Aldo talks about fighting Sean O'Malley for the bantamweight title
According to Aldo, his coach believes that they can compete for a title that they really don’t deserve. It's clear that Aldo liked the idea and spoke out about it after his win at #UFC301.
“(My coach) always says that with my name I can jump the line, I can get in there because when we left we had a very good ranking…” Jose Aldo said (H/T MMA Fighting). “If we can skip the line, that would be great. It would be great. I think that’s it, I’ll rest a little and get back to training hard and new challenges will come.”
Aldo held the UFC featherweight title for many years and is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters to ever grace the division. Following in his footsteps, of course, came champions like Max Holloway and then eventually Alexander Volkanovski.
Aldo now fights at bantamweight and could truly ride off into the sunset with another title to add to his collection. However, such a fight will be very difficult to finish with a simple win over Jonathan Martinez, and whether he wants to skip the line or not, it can be assumed that Aldo needs a few more solid wins to at least claim the bantamweight throne.
