Eddie Hearn: Devin Haney 'bad' after loss to Ryan Garcia and demands disqualification – Boxing News 24

Promoter Eddie Hearn says his fighter Devin Haney is taking his loss to Ryan Garcia “very badly” and is unhappy that he tested positive and is 3.2lb overweight.

Hearn wants Haney's loss overturned if an investigation into his two failed PED tests for Ostarine shows it was in his system on the night of the April 20 fight. He says Haney wants to “disqualify” Ryan for this fight.

Failure is failure. He still failed two drug tests and had performance-enhancing drugs in his system when he fought Devin Haney,” promoter Eddie Hearn told Fight Hub TV.

Haney wants to disqualify, says Hearn

“I think he wants a disqualification. He’s not good, but he wasn’t good in the first place,” Hearn said of how well Haney is handling his loss. This is a child who dedicated his life to sports. When he was beaten, it was a very hard pill to swallow.

“I don't think he performed very well that night. He was still a little confused that he had lost. Now in his head: “How much of an impact was the excess weight and how much of the performance-enhancing drugs were found, how much did that affect what happened that night?”

Concerns about Garcia's advantage

“In his head, there was a little bit of comfort in the fact that it wasn’t all equal, and let’s be honest. One thing is for sure: it was not a level playing field. Even if you are the biggest Ryan Garcia fighter in the world, you have to admit it.

“Because of the failed tests, he took a lot of punishment that night,” Hearn said of Haney. “I think if you get punished like that and someone doesn't pass those tests.

Hearn: Haney takes defeat 'personally'

“He's taking it very personally to the point where I don't even know if he wants to fight him (Ryan) again.

“He actually told me, 'I could have died there.' This is why it is important to go through this process. If a fighter has gone through this to do this, it's another ball game.

“If you did it on purpose and you had a fighter like Devin Haney saying, 'I could have died there.' I wasn’t going to leave,” and at times he suffered beatings. I think he will take it very negatively and personally,” Hearn said.
